Dutch-born Ghanaian striker Akwasi Asante struck the opening goal for Solihull Moors to help them win the Birmingham Senior Cup against Birmingham City U21s.

The former Birmingham City striker, 23, shot his side into the lead in 33 minutes.

Richard Beale’s men failed to deal with a long throw into the area and Knights was on hand to lash home from eight yards.

Weaver saved Birmingham two minutes later. The ball was played into Asante’s feet, the striker’s delicate flick put Stefan Moore straight through. Weaver was out in a flash to block the former Villa man’s effort.

Moors responded well and almost opened the scoring on the half hour when Akwasi Asante headed down from a corner and Jake Weaver turned the ball aside. Liam Daly followed up and fired into the side-netting from an acute angle.

The forward is striving to kickstart his career at Solihull Moors after relentless hamstring problems prevented him from making a breakthrough at Blues.
