The Management of Volta Warriors, a first Division league club has entered into leasehold with the Volta River Authority (VRA) for the use of the Akosombo Sports Stadium by the club for ten (10) years as part of its development plan. In this respect, the Volta Warriors Academy soccer club will pay to the VRA, 800 (Eight hundred) dollars each year.
Disclosing this at Akosombo Mr Johny Orlando, Chief Executive officer of the academy said, it is the determination of the executive not only to ensure the clubs qualification to in sports development. According to Mr Orlando, the management has so far spent 18,000 dollars on renovation of the stadium since it took over about four months ago.
Among these are provision of electricity and water supply renovation of the special stands and re-roofing of the stands shed, construction of inner perimeter paintings and dressing rooms of both the referees and players. The said what is needed now is accommodation house both players and coaches at Akosombo and therefore appealed to the authorities for assistance.
The Warriors Chief Executive officer stated that presently, the executive has also taken over the Ajax Academy from Ashanti Goldfields Football club. "As a result of the taken over, we have grouped Under-12, 14 and 17 from which players will be recruited to feed the regular side in all big time soccer" he stressed.
Mr Johny Orlando disclosed that, since the exist of sensational Akotex from the premier league in 1980, sporting activities have gone under ground and expressed the hope that the youth especially the talented ones will takes full advantage of the opportunity and train hard.
Mr Orlando who played for Accra Hearts of Oak along side Lomo Michael of defunct Akotex and the Black Stars was among the Nigerian Super Green Eagles, which won African Cup in 1980. He, however, cautioned players to be disciplined since discipline is the only pivot of any successful organisation.
In an answer to a question, Mr Johny Orlando said after hard work in the United States of American, (USA) he has decided to plough back some of his hard earned money to development sports.
