Akateng Cornerstone Division Two ends abruptly

Nkurakan, (E/R), April 2, GNA - The Eastern Regional Second Division Soccer league match between Akateng Cornerstones and Somanya Garveyites F/C ended at half time because the home team Cornerstones could not raise GHC 41.8 to pay for the referees transport and officiating allowance.

At the time referee Alan Anku whistled to signal the end of the match, the home team was down by a lone goal.

Referee Anku in explanation for whistling for the end of the match, said by the regulations of the Regional Football Association (RFA), the home team was supposed to pay the officiating and transport allowance of the match officials by the end of half time. He said if the home team failed to honour its obligations the referee has to stop the match and report to the RFA.

Referee Anku said the central referee was supposed to wait for 15 minutes after the first half had ended but he considered to wait for 30 minutes and yet the home team could not honour its obligations. Earlier, the match was held up for 20 minutes when the only goal of the match was scored in the 14th minute.

The hold up arose as a result of the breaking down of one of the goal posts when the visitors were celebrating their goal. It took sometime to have the goal post fixed for the match to continue. 02 April 09
