Akaminko celebrates promotion in Turkey

Defender Jerry Akaminko has realized the dream to guide club side Orduspor to promotion into the Turkey top flight league on Sunday after beating Gaziantep BB 1-0 in the second tier promotional play-offs final. The Ghanaian was excellent in defence, making timely tackles and keeping the Gaziantep strikers at bay as Ahmet Kuru struck in the 88th minute to give Orduspor the much needed win and promotion to the Turkey Super League.

Akaminko’s side had earlier in the week disposed off Caykur Rizespor 7-3 on aggregate in the play-offs semi final and Sunday’s last gap win ensures that Orduspor will see top flight action come 2011/12.

The Ghanaian who remains the bedrock of the Orduspor defence hopes to carry on the same output into the Turkey top flight where they are bound to come up against tougher teams and tougher players. Jerry Akaminko however is fired up and ready for action, come next season.

“First of all I thank God so much for blessing me and the club. Its God’s doing, not me, not any of my teammates. We give praise to the most high for helping us qualify,” he told All Sports via phone from Turkey.

The obviously excited and elated Akaminko added: “Of course the Super League will not be easy at all especially as it will be new to us but we won’t be pushovers, we will be ready. We will just take a little holiday break and get back to work, we need to work harder than ever. But we will be ready come start of next season.”
