Agona citizens resident in the United Kingdom have decided to assist two Swedru teams, All Blacks and Fankobaa to regain their place among the elite of Ghana football.

Mr John Agyabeng, District Chief Executive told GNA Sports that the decision stems from the realisation that the two teams have failed to rejoin the premiership because they do not have the financial muscle to keep their players in the face of tempting offers from Accra.

He said the district administration has been concerned about the decline in the performance of the two clubs, which had hitherto brought happiness to the people.

The DCE said he met with the UK residents when they came home for the Akwanmbo festival and they agreed to support the clubs in cash and kind.

He said Swedru teams are vulnerable to the bait of the Accra clubs because of its proximity to the capital and it is only a sound financial base that would nurture the players into big stars to challenge the strong clubs.

He said the financial strength of residents of Swedru has fallen because of the rise of Kasoa as the commercial centre. Booming business at Kasoa has also attracted the youth from the cocoa industry, leading to loss of cocoa revenue as well.

The DCE said promised to ensure transparency and accountability in their management when the support from UK arrives.
