Aggrey Memorial emerges inter-schools soccer champions

Cape Coast, Nov.13, GNA-Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School emerged the Zone One champions when they inflicted a painful 1-0 defeat on Adisadel college in the finals of their inter schools and colleges soccer match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Tuesday. In a tension -heightened match, handled by referee Jeffery Amamoo, the two teams exhibited a lot of determination to win at the initial stages. In the 16th minute, Aggrey Memorial earned a free kick outside the penalty box.

Outside left, Francis Adam, who took the kick gave a pass to centre forward Albert Abeka to score whaty turned out to be the only goal of the match.

Adisadel College, protested against the goal on grounds that it was scored from an offside position but the referee stood his grounds. Adisadel College resume the second half strongly and made several efforts to equalise but try as they did, they could not find the net until full time.

When the referee's whistle went for the end of proceedings the two teams traded stones and it took the intervention of tutors from both schools to bring the situation under control.

In the girls' division soccer, Mankessim secondary technical school beat Holy Child 3-2 on penalties.
