Afranie Drops Ishmael Addo & Others

BLACK SATELLITES coach, E.K. Afranie, after denials of leaving out Ghana's top local stars from his side, has dropped five home-based players.

The Satellites head coach has finally revealed the list of players expected to make the trip to the World Youth Championships next month in Argentina. Ishmael Addo, Stephen Tetteh, Charles Taylor, all of Hearts of Oak, and Stephen Oduro and Lawrence Kainyah both of Asante Kotoko have been dropped from the provisional list of twenty locally-based players.

The list also has eight foreign-based players: namely Anthony Obodai of Ajax Amsterdam, Michael Essien of Bastia France, Swiss based John Mensah, Derek Boateng of Greek side, Panathiniakos, Razak Pimpong of Danish club, Midjyland, Israel-based Ibrahim Attiku and debutantes Frank Weitner and James Owusu Ansah who is based in Mexico.

According to coach Afranie, the list will be pruned down to twenty after the training exercise, in preparation towards a new FIFA provision that affords participating teams the opportunity of five additional players.

Meanwhile the team is expected to leave Accra on June 3 for Frankfurt, to engage the German Under-20 side in a friendly on June 10. After the fixture, the squad will be leaving for Argentina on June 11.
