Aduaku saves Ghana from humiliation

THE Black Queens of Ghana came from one goal down on Tuesday to beat Algeria 2-1 in their Group B clash of the ongoing African Women's Championship (AWC) in South Africa.

Aduaku Agnes emerged the heroine of the day with a brace to save the Ghanaians from humiliation.

The Algerians shot ahead barely five minutes into the game through Isma Quadah, whose long range float caught the Black Queens' goalkeeper helpless.

Coach Anthony Edusei later in the second half made tactical changes which strengthened the attack of the Ghanaians, as Aduaku got the equaliser in the 63rd minute with a tricky drive from the box.

Aduaku was on song again in the 73rd minute to give the West African side cause for celebration.

Speaking after the game, coach Anthony said his team deserved to win.

"We realised that the only way for us to win this match was to equalise in the early part of the second half since we failed in the first stanza, and this we achieved and also added another goal.

“I talked to my players after the first half that the game was never lost and with the changes we made too in the second half, it really helped my team," said the Ghanaian coach.

He added that two-goal heroine, Aduaku remains one of the future players of women's football in Ghana saying that "she has always been outstanding".

On the team's hope of moving to the semi-final, Anthony said "we won't take chances because both Cameroun and Equatorial Guinea are tough, we won’t underrate any team".
