Administrative Manager of Hearts clears the air

Accra, May 8, GNA - Mr Ashford Tettey-Oku, Administrative Manager of Accra Hearts of Oak, says Management will, in consultation with the technical team, decide on the calibre of players to fill remaining four slots on their list of registered players for the 2006 Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Champions League.

Hearts registered 26 players instead 30, at the start of the competition and are entitled to complete the list by virtue of their qualification to the league stages with four more players. Speaking to the GNA Sports, Mr Tettey-Oku said the club would meet with the technical team to select players to fill the four slots, adding that any decision will be based on the recommendations of the technical men.

He said the club had not taken any decision on the kind of players to register for the competition and that there were a wide variety of materials at their disposal.

Mr Tettey-Oku mentioned the likes of Dan Coleman, Eric Gawu, Issa Mohamed, Bawa Mohamed, Wisdom Abbey, among others, as eligible players for registration.

He also indicated that midfielder Lawrence Adjah-Tetteh will be among the candidates to be considered for registration because his loan spell with the Qatarian side ended last month.

According to Mr Tettey-Oku, the Qatarian club has an option of renewing his stay with them but should they reject such a move, the player automatically returns to Hearts' fold.

The Administrative Manager dispelled rumours that the club intends writing to CAF for the replacement of two players on the list. Hearts registered Abraham Annan and Obed Ansah, both of Heart of Lions, for the competition but could not conclude negotiations on their release and this led to the return of the duo to their club.

Mr Tettey-Oku said there was no rule in the statutes books of CAF, which makes room for that arrangement and it will be ignorant on their part to make such a request.

"It's impossible and we will not even consider it because it does not exist anywhere in the books of the confederation".

Hearts picked a place in the league stages of the competition after disposing Tunisian Etoile Du Sahel on penalties in the second leg game played in Sousse, Tunisia over the weekend.

This was after both legs ended one all and compelled the game into penalty shoot out with Hearts winning 6-5 (7-6 on aggregate). The phobians will be grouped along side, Ghanaian compatriots Asante Kotoko, Asec Mimosa of Cote D' Ivoire, CSS Faxien of Tunisia, defending champions Al Ahly, Enyimba National of Nigeria, among others. CAF has fixed the balloting for Saturday, May 13.
