Adidas To Kit Black Stars

A German Sports Ware Manufacturing company, Adidas has sent proposals to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), to provide kit the country's national football teams for a period to be agreed upon by the GFA.

The company is awaiting response from the GFA to proceed with the actual agreement. The Local Representative of Adidas, Mr Yaw Amfo Kwakye said this when he presented sports kits worth 12 million cedis to the Sports Writers' Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards its 27th awards ceremony scheduled for the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Saturday. The items include 12 soccer boots, five tennis shoes, 10 tracksuits and three T-shirts.

The SWAG Awards ceremony would honour sportsmen and sportswomen who were outstanding last year. Samuel Osei-Kuffour of Bayern Munich fame doubles as the reigning sportsman of the year and the Footballer of the year whiles Ishmael Addo would be crowned goal king.

Mr Kwakye urged the GFA to respond quickly to the proposals to enable him communicate with the mother company to start designing the kits. He said Adidas is about to commence its next batch of production and urged the GFA to expedite action on the proposals for it to be incorporated into the company's programme for the year.

The President of SWAG, Mr Ebo Quansah said the association has noticed that over the years, sports promotion and development in the country have been seriously hampered by inadequate infrastructure, lack of facilities and efficient equipment. The President said as a result of lack of incentives and wage inadequacy, the sports council does not attract high-calibre staff.

He said as the watchdog over sports promotion in the country, SWAG sees it as a duty to demand from the authorities why the situation has been made to degenerate into such an alarming proportions. Mr Quansah said the association believes that President John Agyekum Kufuor is the best person to inform the whole country about government's positive change programme in sports promotion.
