Adebayor takes charity to Upper West Ghana

Togo star striker Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor takes his charity to the Upper West Region of Ghana tomorrow when he commissions two bore-hole projects for the border town communities of Hamile and Ko which he has personally funded.

According to Foussena Djagba, Publicist and Continental Agent of the Real Madrid striker, Adebayor who lived at Akatsi in the Volta Region of Ghana at an early age, was touched when he heard the plight of women and children in the two towns who walk over six hours each day to a river to fetch water for their daily chores, cooking and bathing. All for water which they even share with animals.

“If he is to choose another country to become a citizen then it definitely will be Ghana and he believes in charity because he likes to help people in need. He was in Togo two weeks ago where he made a donation of over $200,000 to needy children for drugs,” Madam Djagba told All Sports yesterday.

She added: “Adebayor cried after hearing the story of the water problems of the two towns and decided to help. He schooled in Akatsi in Ghana when he was young and he told us the story of how they had to walk for two hours every day to fetch water to bath before they go to school.”

Madam Foussena also tells All Sports Adebayor will “use one stone to kill two birds,” by meeting old Ghana players who hail from the North as well as feature in a football match between former players from the region like Kwame Ayew, Maxwell Konadu, Gargo Mohammed, Mohammed Choo and Kwesi ‘Wa Polo’ Nyantakyi against current players.

A grand durbar of the chiefs in the region will also be held in honour of Adebayor later on in the day.
