Accra Sports stadium playing field is overuse d

Dr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) has described the playing field of the Accra Sports Stadium as over-used and needs urgent care to put it in shape to meet international standards.

Speaking with the GNA Sportson Thursday, Dr Owusu-Ansah said men of the Parks and Gardens department who are in-charge of the field do not get enough time to properly groom the grass since it is always in use.

He said four teams use the facility for premier league matches which means that at least not less than six matches are played every week if there are midweek matches.

Dr Owusu-Ansah said thios apart, schools, the national teams and the national rugby team all use the same field regularly.

Recently bare patches have appeared around the centre circle and inside the goals post.

He said, until urgent attention is given to the field and the pressure on the field reduced the country would soon return to the days when the Accra Sports Stadium field would virtually be grassless.
