Massive boost for Ghana as influential midfielder Clifford Aboagye has passed a late fitness test ahead of their round of 16 tie against Mali at the ongoing U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The 20-year-old picked up a muscle strain in their last Group B game against Panama which they won 1-0 in Auckland on Friday.

Aboagye, who lasted the first half of the game, was feared to be out of contention for the round of 16 clash against Mali on Wednesday.

However, the team’s medical officer Prince Pambo says the Granada player has returned to training and is available for selection.

“Clifford Aboagye has returned to training and is fully fit and available for selection to the coach,” Pambo told Joy FM.

“I want to allay any injury fears and assure Ghanaians that he is fit for Wednesday’s match.

“We as medical team do not determine who gets picked for games. Our duty is limited to ensuring that players are fit and available for selection.

“And I can confirm that Clifford Aboagye is fit and available for selection,” he said.

Aboagye missed Ghana’s opening game against Austria due to visa issues but joined his colleagues for their second group game against Argentina.

He will be counted on by coach Sellas Tetteh who is hoping to clinch a second Fifa U20 World Cup title.
