Abedi: Golden Foot award could be the greatest

Football legend Abedi Pele has received many awards but the Maestro tells ALL SPORTS the latest one received in Monte Carlo, Monaco, France last Monday could yet be his greatest accolade.

*On a night when Manchester United star Ryan Giggs won the Golden foot 2011 award, the three time African best footballer of the year *together with Luis Figo (Portugal), Ruud Gullit (Holland), Rabah Madjer (Algeria) and Javier Zanetti (Argentina) were presented with the international football career awards.

“This could be the biggest award considering its international pedigree and the people who have also won it. Backenbauer, Pele, Platini, Maradona, all these great names won it and to leave footprints in Monaco, a big city with a big history. It’s a great achievement and a big reward,” Pele told ALL SPORTS exclusively from France via phone.

He added: “I don’t know, it’s difficult (to say which award is the biggest), you have to appreciate everything that God gives you. It feels good that I’m receiving all these awards in my lifetime and not when I’m dead. I just have to thank God anytime I wake up and I’m called for such big recognitions, other achievements are a bonus.”
