9 referees suspended

...for providing fake certificates

A total of nine local referees have reportedly been banned six months each by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for providing fake BECE certificates.

The said individuals were asked by officials of the GFA to produce their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) certificates to, ostensibly, confirm their ages and education backgrounds upon completion of FIFA fitness test held in Prampram a few weeks ago.

But further checks by the GFA and the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) at the WEAC office in Accra revealed that some of the applicants allegedly produced fake certificates.

The referees committee, according to report, is highly upset by the development and putting in place stringent measures to arrest the canker.

However, some of the referees who are saddened by the development told Final Whistle on condition of anonymity they will persuade the GFA to punish those involved.

Final whistle is following this story keenly and will furnish readers with the very latest.
