5th Valco Sss Soccer Finals On Oct 6

The finals of the fifth VALCO Sponsored SSS annual soccer tournament has been scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium from October 6 to October 13.

Six schools, three each from the southern and northern sectors of the country, are billed to battle each other in a contest expected to draw a large crowd.

A spokesman for the organisers, the Ghana Education Service, told GNA Sports in Accra that defending champions Aggrey Memorial of Cape Coast, Pope Johns of Koforidua and Apam Secondary School would represent the southern sector while Business SSS of Tamale, Navrongo SSS and Osei Kyeretwie of Kumasi complete the list for the northern sector.

The winning school receives 5 million cedis, a certificate, medals, soccer boots and jerseys, while the first and second runner ups take home 4 million cedis and 3 million cedis respectively plus certificates, boots and jerseys.

The last three teams would each be presented with 2 million cedis, 1.5 million cedis and 1 million cedis in an ascending order.

The source said prizes would be given to the best behaved school, best player and goal king of the tournament.

Meanwhile, four players of the academicals team selected after last year's tournament have been invited to join the current national under-17 soccer team, the Black Starlets, scheduled to assemble at Obuasi today.

They are, Frank Appiah, skipper Owusu Sekyere, defenders Isaac Amadu and Aminu Mohammed.
