2015 Premier corporate football league launched

This year's edition of the corporate football league a competition reserved for companies and other institutions has been launched in Accra. The competition is organized by the Lizzy Sports Complex (LSC) and has been endorsed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Sports betting company, Premier Betting Ghana, are the new headline sponsors of the event with 14 teams registered to play in the elite division with another eight billed to compete in a lower tier contest.

At the launch at the GFA Secretariat on Monday, Tony Hill of Premier Betting Ghana said his outfit is happy to be associated with the organization of this year's competition and hoped it would yield positive results in the long run. He tasked the participating teams to be up to the challenge and put the kind of performance that has seen this competition been tasked as the most competitive football league in Ghana.

Joseph Kudiabor of the LSC said the competition which started in 2011, has produced a healthy competition as well as building partnerships and networking among the various companies. He believed this year's event would follow in a similar vein as they look to put together a brand that would be a standard marker in the country. The league starts on April 10 and would be played on Friday's and Saturday's to complete the season with a knockout competition running along the lines. Finatrade Ghana are the defending champions and would face competition from Samsung FC, Golden Legs of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Roaning Africa, Aviation FC, Finlight FC, Mavericks, Azar Paints, Happy FM, Nestle Ghana Limited, Tema Oil Refinery, KPMG, NADMO and Blue Skies Limited for the elite division.

The division one league would see Ghana Technical University competing alongside DVLA, National Investment Bank, Ghana National Petroleum Company, DHL, TV3, and a team from Togo to fight for one of the four promotional places available.

Each team is entitled to register 22 players with 14 available for selection at a time. The competition is a seven-a-side contest with all the matches to be played at the LSC at East Legon in Accra.
