The government believes that the only way it can continue sponsoring muslims in their pilgrimage to Mecca is to have something for the other side.The government must stop funding muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Ghana should not have any National Hajj Committee.
Rawlings created this problem in the 1980s in order to win political support from muslims. It has stayed ever since. It will be very difficult for any government to discontinue government funding of muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. If a government in power cancels the funding of muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, that government will be labelled anti muslim.

We will worship God in our localities and in our hearts. Christianity, the liberating religion! We don't have a tomb of Christ to worship or visit. We worship God in spirit, not by burdensome pilgrimages. My Muslim cousin strained to raise money in those days to go to Mecca when he couldn't afford his children's school fees. When he returned, I was expecting to see a very holy man. But no; he came and immediately married a third wife and created a business letterhead with the title: "Alhaji..." He started an aggressive trading business skimming everyone in his way. And when one wife left he always laboriously filled it up to make three. His reason was that it is mandated in Islam to marry an odd number of women so that the odd number will always be the intermediary between the rest in case of a fight. Oh dear!
