Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that church leaders are part of the people encouraging corruption in Nigeria.
Obasanjo stated this on Saturday, while speaking at the convention of Victory Life Bible Church International in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He was represented at the event by Femi Olajide, who is the chapel of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library’s Christ the Glorious King Church.
“There is no doubt that all our institutions have been tarnished by the brush of corruption.
“If the Church, as an institution, does not take bribe or get involved in other corrupt practice, the behaviour of some of our men of God leaves much to be desired.
“They not only celebrate but venerate those whose sources of wealth are questionable. They accept gifts (offering) from just anybody without asking questions. This gives the impression that anything is acceptable in the house of God.
“But if Jesus can chase out those buying and selling from the temple with the declaration that, ‘My house shall be called the house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves,’ then it is time to stand up against corruption,” Obasanjo said.
He also urged churches to preach prosperity messages with caution and moderation.
“Our present day ‘money changers’ and ‘merchants’ must be chased out of the Church and put to shame in the larger society.
“While miracles, signs and wonders are the expectations of true believers, such must be based on righteousness. To preach that one can acquire wealth without labour is not only deceitful; it is a call to corruption. It is false preaching and it is sinful.
“We must be careful in believing and celebrating every testimony of miraculous blessing, hence we end up being hoodwinked into celebrating corruption,” Obasanjo added.

The things of God cannot be sold or bought. If you try to do that, the Holy Spirit will depart from that thing and another spirit, not of God will be behind it. Offerings can only be freely given but not forced from anyone.

The extremely bad ones will be weeded out ,just as bad doctors or bad professionals in all other professions are dealt with when they break the law.the law is the key word here.

Kumchacha or whoever he is is trying to justify the collection of consultation fee by indicating that the Bible permits it. So it would be right for him to give the exact biblical references. Kindly note that Christian religion is not like the worldly business for you to suggest we use worldly laws to regulate collection of such fees. The other professionals you talked about are regulated by the relevant laws. So the so called pastors must be judged by what the Bible says.

John the Baptist didn't care much for fashion. He was a prophet, and his clothing matched his mission. John's clothing was similar to his predecessor Elijah, who wore "a garment of hair, with a belt of leather about his waist" (2 Kings 1:8, also see Zechariah 13:4).
John was not a king, nor did he pretend to be one. Jesus, later in his ministry, spoke to the crowds about John, saying, "What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet" (Matthew 11:8-9).
The gospels portray John as a rough kind of man. He didn't live in a king's house, but in the wilderness. He didn't eat kingly food; instead he ate locusts and wild honey.
John the Baptist attracted people from "Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan". I think it's safe to assume that it wasn't John's dress or diet that attracted his followers (Matthew 3:4). Instead, it was his message and his baptism, a baptism that was not from man, but God (Matthew 21:25).
I will advice to read the Bible well. Jesus ded not come to aquire wealth, his disciples also.Paul didn't want to be a burden for any one so he worked hard to earn his living when he needed money.
