Yes one hallmark of the Catholic Church is celibacy policy for its prelates. However to think that the policy is not livable and without spiritual benefits only stems from a lack of understanding of the lifting of the soul towards God. Undeniably the issue of Catholic priests cited for paedophilia has made news but who says it is only the celibate Catholic priest who may be guilty? Only a year or 2 ago the Methodist Church in the UK came out to admit and confess to paedophilia among the ranks of its clergy even though the Methodist Church hasn't adopted priestly celibacy. Paedophilia as a cancer in the Catholic Church is prevalent among the whites which seem to suggest that it has racial undertones for whatever reason I don't know. You could cite Ghanaian Catholic priest for involvement in sex but that would certainly be of a heterosexual nature. Why, the celibacy vow that a Catholic priest takes at his ordination is a vow between himself and his maker God, the Almighty. It's a personal convenant with God which obviously has its challenges. But who says the vow is not livable. Obviously some falter along the way, hence the Bishop Emeritus point of it not being the "greatest sin". Why, don't we all promise God and fail? So why can't a priest who is human like us. Doctor to sin is not the issue but whether you stay in your sin or make the effort to rise from it is the issue. The cross of some Catholic priest, and these are in the minority, might be their weakness to resist the temptations of the flesh but Catholic teaching teaches both clergy and the lay faithful to pick up their crosses and follow Jesus. Self righteousness won't be of any help to you. Take the log out of your own eye before you go taking the speck from your neighbour's eyes.

If celebacy was the issue why would married people indulge in extra marital affairs? Can Okoampofo argue that because married people indulge in extra marital affairs, marriage as an institution and a sacrament be abolished? So you see Okoampofo does not understand the issues here. One can cite examples all over like the Presbyterian minister who raped a sick woman in-patient under sedation on her hospital bed at Agogo Hospital.
