Tirah (Israel) (AFP) - When Hanin Radi tried to make her dream come true of staging a marathon in her hometown, the Arab Israeli received death threats from radical Islamists.
"I've run marathons everywhere, but in the streets of my town I'm afraid to run," said Radi, who is from the Arab town of Tirah in central Israel.
The 36-year-old mother of four is among those who have stirred the wrath of Salafist Islamists increasingly asserting themselves among Israel's Arab population.
Citing their strict interpretation of Sunni Islam, Salafists have taken their campaign to cultural institutions and local governments, opposing anything they view as immoral.
In the case of Radi, who has finished third in the Tel Aviv marathon, her running in public in exercise gear violates the Salafists' rigid ideas about women and modesty.
She trains three times a week with about 50 other women in Tirah, but they can only run after nightfall in a closed stadium, empty of men.
"Last year we had everything organised for a marathon. We had announced a date and distributed posters," Radi, who is herself Muslim, told AFP.
"But when I went with the girls to run the course we'd laid out, we encountered the bearded (religious) men, who insulted us. Then the religious began to stir up the people against us."
That same evening, she said, she received death threats and abuse over the phone.
In the middle of the night, "shots were fired at my house and my car."
Israeli police questioned a Muslim cleric suspected of inciting violence against the would-be runners, she said. "But the case was closed without anyone being arrested."
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said comments on social media, including Facebook, are in general "referred to the attorney general, who has the right to study them".
She dismissed allegations that police are less stringent in addressing concerns among the Arab population than those involving Jews.
"We investigate (accusations) thoroughly, with each case measured according to its merits and circumstances," she said.

Arab Israelis, Palestinians who remained after the creation of the Jewish state in 1948 and their descendants, make up about 17.5 percent of Israel's eight million population.
The vast majority are Muslim, though there are also significant Christian and Druze populations.
There are no official figures on how many consider themselves Salafists, though community leaders estimate they number a few thousand.

What we must do as Muslim faithfuls in my opinion is to critically analyze the post and address the issues he raised which to some large extent are fair and on point as well as those we think are attacks or not on point and address them appropriately. I don't think the insults and personal attacks and taking estranged positions will ever help us.
We are all seekers of knowledge that's why we are on this platform. As Muslims, it's our duty to clarify any misconception about Islam and not to take the offensive position. If we say Islam is peace, why can't all of humanity feel the peace? or is it for a certain category of people? We can't run away from the fact that some Muslims are violent and some scholars as well as some schools of thought are indeed violent. But is that what the Religion teaches?
Some of our religious scholars and schools of thought have actually caused more harm than good to Islam because of some radical and literalist views they adopted. However, there other good and pious Muslims who live the tenets of Islam and they coexist peacefully with their fellow humans. If you come into contact with them, you will see the beauty of Islam and the character of the Noble Prophet (SAW) in them. All what every religion seeks to achieve for its adherents is salvation and nothing else. Therefore, let's be patient in working towards that.
Come to think of the attacks on Islam, the Prophet, and Allah, I would want to assume that it was out of anger and maybe ignorance which is pardonable in my view. But next time try to seek clarification from well inform religious scholars within or outside your locality.
Let's all absolve not to go into others faith and beliefs. Let's promote peace wherever we live and also promote and live the good teachings of our faiths. Constructive criticism is mostly welcome.

Firstly, the failure of Mohammed to partner with Christ, and learn of Christ as God (Matthew 11:28-30) resulted in a graceless, and immoral people who are proud ( self-dependent) with the self- achieved righteousness of their master, Mohammed who inherited prelslamiic faith of the Quraysh tribe. Thus Mohammed created a religion and followers who were totally unfit to stand before GOD in judgement --a people in bondage to sin, and its hostility to the church ( Genesis 3 :15).
Secondly, is the identity of the "God" of Mohammed. A choice of an idol in divine garb could only result in a religion controlled by Satan. Mohammed's religion was in existence long before his father, Abdullah--slave of Allah-- was born. History tells us Mohammed destroyed the numerous idols of the prelslamic arabs in Mecca, and kept only Allah as the monotheistic god, as well as all the festivals and rituals of the prelslamic arabs.
Unlike lslam, Christians accept Jesus as their personal Savior from sin, who dispels demons and sin in their personal will, and and they in turn, depend on the earned meritorious rightousmess of their elder Brother, Christ, to free them from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and give them a living hope of God, to free them very presence of sin in the hereafter when Satan is destroyed--this is grace. "If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
Thirdly, is the question : where are the founders of religions?
Aren't they waiting in their graves to be ressurected by Jesus? (John chpt 11; 1Corinthians 15:51-53).

Even Associated Press, which isn’t considered a pro-Christian news outlet, reported on the extent of the assaults.
“In the four days since security forces cleared two sit-in camps by supporters of Egypt’s ousted president, Islamists have attacked dozens of Coptic churches along with homes and businesses owned by the Christian minority,” reported AP. “Nearly 40 churches have been looted and torched, while 23 others have been attacked and heavily damaged since Wednesday [August 14].”
A more detailed report lists 56 churches attacked in a 24-hour span that started on August 14. Fifteen more were hit over the next two days. Dozens of Coptic institutions like schools, monasteries, bookstores and even an orphanage were also attacked.
The Bible Society in Egypt has been operating for 129 years, and this is the first time it’s been the victim of assaults like those carried out on two of its bookstores. Both were burned to the ground.
On August 18, this reporter talked with Dr. Halim Meawad, a deacon for 26 years with St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, the largest Coptic church in the Washington, D.C. area.
“St. Mark was the founder of the Coptic Church in 45 A.D.,” Meawad explained. “All of Egypt was Coptic for almost a thousand years until the Muslims invaded and started imposing heavy taxes on the Christians. Those who couldn’t pay were forced to convert to Islam under pain of death. Today’s Muslims in Egypt are descendants of Copts who couldn’t pay their taxes hundreds of years ago.”
The Copts today are only 10% of Egypt’s population of 90 million, said Dr. Meawad,

CAIRO – Millions of Muslims will celebrate the beginning of the holy fasting month of Ramadan on Monday, June 6, following announcement that the new moon was sighted on Sunday.
“Tomorrow is the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan,” the Saudi Arabia Supreme Court reportedly said.
Egypt’s Iftaa House said the new moon of Ramadan was sighted Sunday, June 5.
“Therefore, Monday, June 6, will be the first day of Ramadan.”
A similar announcement was made by the UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee and other gulf states.
Jordan, Palestine and Yemen also confirmed that the holy month will start on Monday.
Other Muslim countries, mainly in Asia, confirmed that the moon was sighted earlier today

Well, Mr. author, I share your sentiments on the principles of free speech, free taught and free inquiry. However, if these principles are only tested on one particular religion at all times, am afraid it ceases tobe one of genuine and normal practice. Unfortunately, the issue of religious blasphemies in our times is pointed consistently one one religion. The question is why are all the blasphemies targeted on Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.)? I am yet see or hear one on Prophet Issah (Jesus) who is so called Lord of christions. Muslims do not say anything blasphemous of Jesus. Could this be the reason why we have not seen violent reactions from our Christian brothers. This because we equally and definitely have Christian extremies and I certainly believe that if provoked by constantly abusing their faith , there will be similar reactions from Christian extremies.
I do not subcribe to violent reactios from muslims. However, we are humanbeings subject to reflex reactions and for this reason, we all have equal responsibility to prevent violents, whether is physical or verbal.
One thing that is clear, is for all of us to move away from hypocricy in our lives and call a spade a spade. If you have fore knowledge of how somebody will react to a stimuli, why will any right thinking person trigger it?
For me the problem is not muslim extremies, the problem is intorelants from Christian extremies who cannot accept others who do not subcribe to the strange position that Jesus is Lord and should be woshiped intead of Jesus's own maker (Allah or what Christian called Father).
In conclusion, Christian extremies shoud stop targeting Prophet Mohammed and constantly abusing him with the least provocation because the reason why we don't have reactions from Christian extremies because the muslime are tolerant of Jesus Christ, respect him, and recognize him as a true prophet.
Can our Christian counterparts atleast let prophet Mohammed be even if they don't believe in his religion?
The only formular for peace is tolerance. Unfortunately Christians are not tolerant of Prophet Mohammed (A.S)and therefore subject him to all kinds of abuse with cartoons, blasphemies etc. when this happens the muslims merely being human will not be tolerant of accepting the constant abuse of their faith. They resort to violent reactions because they will not and cannot pay by abusing Jesus because they respect him, so thet rather deal with any one who insult them.
Much as we call on muslimes to stop the violent reactions, Christians should be made be more tolerant and stop the unnecessary and unprovoked triggers of violents, simple.
If there is no action, there will not be reaction, physical or verbal.
