The Secretary is right. The church needs "to seek the welfare of their members, especially the unemployed youth."
But where does the church get money to fund such big projects if the tithe obligation is no longer relevant, or unbiblical, as some say?
It is important to note that the Levitical priesthood of old has become the royal priesthood of all believers in Christ (see 1 Peter 2:9).
Neither the Lord or his disciples ever
relaxed the obligation to pay tithes. There is not even one single text negating the continuing obligation of tithes payments in the OT or the NT.
Dwindling revenues prevents the church from taking chances with its meager financial resources to help the poor and the chronically unemployed in its community.
Paying tithes will certainly help relieve the church of some its financial burdens and reach out to the community it serves.
