Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yusuf Umar Jallo, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his firm stance on the Palestinian cause and his call for an end to the ongoing war in Gaza.
In a statement, Sheikh Jallo noted that President Mahama had shown the world that “dignity cannot be bought or given as a gift; it is a quality that remains with its owner even in the most difficult moments.”
He praised the Ghanaian leader for demonstrating true humanity by urging compassion toward the people of Gaza, condemning Israel’s killings, forced displacements and expulsions of Palestinians and calling for an immediate end to the war.
Sheikh Jallo also highlighted President Mahama’s reminder that justice means giving everyone their due rights, stressing that Palestinians deserve their full rights and dignity as human beings.
Quoting from the Holy Qur’an in Surah An-Nahl, he said, “Indeed, Allah commands you to give to relatives and forbids immorality, wrongdoing and oppression. He instructs you that you may remember.”
He recalled that Ghana recognized the State of Palestine in 1988, a decision that reflected the country’s commitment to justice and solidarity.
Sheikh Jallo further emphasised that Islam upholds the protection of every individual’s rights whether male or female while safeguarding human dignity.

Building on this principle, he called for the promotion of dialogue and communication between different religions and cultures as a means of fostering peace and mutual understanding a vision he said was echoed in President Mahama’s message.
Sheikh Jallo further stressed that the demand for justice for Palestine aligns with Islamic teachings, which call for the establishment of societies built on peace, prosperity and fairness.
He added that God sent messengers to ensure people uphold justice on earth, making it a divine mission for humanity.
Importantly, he urged Islamic scholars and organizations in Ghana and beyond to commend President Mahama’s bold stance and to lend their voices in support of ending the Gaza war.
According to him, the collective voice of religious leaders and humanitarian groups can amplify the call for peace and justice while strengthening Ghana’s moral leadership on the global stage.
Concluding his remarks, Sheikh Yusuf Jallo declared, “We say to President Mahama, go forward, for the rich Islamic community is with you heart and soul. May Allah protect you from evil. Ameen.”
