Exempt Chief Imam’s house from ‘dumsor’ – Muslim Youth demand

Scores of Muslim Youth Monday morning besieged the residence of the National chief Imam to seek his blessing for a protest march against government’s handling of the power crisis in the country.

The Youth, as part of their demands, want the Chief Imam’s residence to be exempted from the ongoing load shedding exercise.

Speaking to Starr News, an aide to the Chief Imam, Osman Mohammed said this is the second time in a week the youth are besieging the residence with similar concerns.

“They have realised that the Chief Imam does not have a proper load shedding plan.

“They have also noticed that in the communities where they live, some influential national figures enjoy 72-hours of light and just 24-hours without it so they believe the chief Imam should also be accorded a similar treatment,” he stated.

Ghana has been experiencing erratic power supply for over a year now due to low level of water in the Akosombo Dam and shortfall in gas supply from Nigeria in the West Africa Gas Pipeline to power thermal plants.

Domestic consumers now enjoy power for 12 hours and light out for 24 hours while commercial users use electricity 24 hours and go without power for 24 hours.
