Omanhene calls for respect for teachers

Techiman (B/A) Dec. 19 GNA - Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman traditional area, has called on other professionals to accord the teacher the honour and respect that the profession deserves.

He said such expression of gratitude would encourage teachers to work harder towards providing quality education. Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV was speaking at a send-off party for Madam Cordelia Mary Boakye-Yiadom, retired Techiman Municipal Director of Education. The Omanhene appealed to teachers to be duty conscious, to exhibit moral uprightness and to be reliable at all times. He expressed gratitude to Madam Boakye-Yiadom for helping to instil discipline among pupils and teachers during her two years stay in the municipality. Nana Okomafo Dwamena Akenten, Buoyemhene, noted the Director had left a vacuum and worthy testimony to inspire women to pursue education.

In a citation in her honour, Mr Kwame Antwi-Boasiako, headmaster of Techiman Secondary School, described the retired Director as a pacesetter in uplifting education in the municipality. Nana Owusu Akyeaw-Brempong, Chairman of Conference of Heads of Basic Schools, who presided, urged parents to realize the importance of education and enrol their children in schools. Madam Boakye-Yiadom noted the contributions of the GES, GNAT and traditional authorities in the enhancement of education in the municipality and expressed the hope that such co-operation would be extended to her successor, Mr Kwabena Fosu Gyeabour. Present were Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education and Mr Pierre K. Ankomah, Techiman Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and some circuit supervisors of the GES.
