Gomoa Ankamu (C/R), Oct 30, GNA - The Mephibosheth Ministry, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based at Gomoa Ankamu in the Central Region on Saturday inaugurated a 360 million-cedi Training Centre for the physically challenged at Gomoa Ankamu.

The United States branch of the NGO financed the building, which would used for therapy, dormitory and classroom for twenty physically challenged children, made up of 8 boys and 12 girls and their guides. Inaugurating the centre, which is the first of the five-phased project, Madam Mary Jane Ponten, Founder of the Mephibosheth Ministry in the US, said the Centre would train the disabled to be self-reliant and self-supporting.

The theme for the occasion was "showing God's love to the physically and mentally challenged".

She appealed to relatives of such children not to neglect them and said they should support, train and assist them so that they do not become a burden on society.

The Executive Director of the Ghana branch of the NGO, Pastor Joseph K. Jehu-Appiah, said the NGO registered in Ghana in 2002 provided therapy and distributed wheelchairs to physical and mentally challenged children.

He said the NGO also sponsored the education for them, adding that, about 50 of such children were now Junior and Senior Secondary Schools. Pastor Jehu-Appiah said the Centre would offer special formal education for the children to develop their talents. Mrs. Christiana Apadu of the Victory Bible Church International, Cape Coast assisted by Madam Ponten to cut the tape to inaugurate the building.
