Coronavirus: Evalue Gwira MP supports Axim Government Hospital

Mrs. Catherine Abelema Afeku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency in the Western Region has supported the Axim Government Hospital with some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and medical equipment.

The donation is second of its kind since the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus. It forms part of dedicated efforts being put in place to fight against the pandemic in the Constituency.

The items worth over Seventy-nine Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC79,000) from her portion of the Health Fund included; sterilizers, hospital beds, vaginal speculum, adult weighing scale, trolleys, drums, trays, pedal bins and blood pressure monitors.

The rest were; cheattle forceps, vaccine C, carriers, plastic pedal bins, underpad, infrared thermometers, surgical face masks, face shields, headgear, ward screen, drip stand and disposal gowns.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Hospital Administrator, Mr. Mahama S. K Wahab expressed his gratitude to the MP for her timely response after they requested these items during the MP's first visit.

He also thanked the MP for her continuous support to the Hospital and other Health facilities in the area.

He took the opportunity to hail the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Frank Okpenyen and the Municipal Health Directorate for their immense support to the facility in these trying times.

He pledged that the items would be put to efficient use for effective health delivery in the area.

In an interview with GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, the MP who is also the Minister of State at the Office of the Senior Minister, Mrs. Catherine Afeku acknowledged the health workers for their commitment.

She also thanked the Nzema East Municipal COVID-19 Taskforce for their sterling performance so far in the Coronavirus disease combat.

She, however, reiterated her readiness and preparedness to support all the health facilities in the area.

The MP enumerated the various schemes put in place by the Nana Addo led NPP Government to ensure the welfare of health workers and the citizenry at large in this difficult time.

She mentioned the reduction in electricity tariffs, allowances for frontline health workers as part of the schemes meant to alleviate the sufferings and to motivate them in the discharge of their duties.

On his part, Mr. Frank Okpenyen, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who accompanied the MP, announced a paid airtime at Ankobra FM in the area for the Taskforce to increase mass education and sensitisation on the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

He commended the MP for her kind gesture offered the Axim Government Hospital in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.
