Lockdown: Thieves are stealing our goods – Asafo market traders lament

Traders at the Asafo Market are dreading losses after they woke up to empty food safes in the Market on Tuesday dawn.

The burglary is suspected to have occurred Monday night after the traders had received fresh stock after the weekend’s panic buying which virtually emptied the market.

An affected trader Maame Akua Affriyie who has been recounting her misfortune and that of her fellow traders said she lost GHC350 and 30 tubers of yam.

She disclosed that other traders on her lane who were wailing had also lost baskets of tomatoes and garden eggs that same night to the burglars who braced the partial lockdown to rob them of their merchandise.

Maame Akua Affriyie expressed worry all the watchmen in the market claimed they did not pick any signals of the thievery.

The traders are demanding a beef-up of security in the markets to repel persons who might be taking advantage of the partial lockdown in Kumasi, to perpetrate such criminal activities.
