Coronavirus Management committee inaugurated in Yendi

The Yendi Municipal Security Council has put in place a 12-member public health management committee on Coronavirus (COVID-19) to sensitize the public.

They include; Alhaji Hammed Abukari YUssif, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Chairman, Mr Gaspard Dery the Municipal Coordinating Director Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim representative of Ghana Education Service, member, Alhaji Sulemana Abu NADMO Municipal director, member Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan Iddi NCCE Municipal Director member.

The rest are; Mr. William Yaw Apuri representative of Civil Society Organizations member, Mr. Cliford Ansah, Yendi Municipal Public Health Unit officer member, Mr. Abdul Rahaman Mohammed, representative of the Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II member, Alhaji Alhassan Taribabu of Muslims sector among others.

In his address, Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussuf the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive indicated that the emergency meeting was called to inform the members and the public on the emergency of the formation of the committee on the COVID-19 in Yendi.

He said in order to ascertain preparedness and adherence of the President’s directives to improve hygiene standards at all public places especially market places and lorry stations, there was the need for such a committee to be formed.

He called on the committee members to sensitize the public on proper handwashing on all available medium within their respective jurisdictions and advised them to educate the public on the prevention of COVID-19 at the market places, lorry stations among others.

He reminded them of the ban on the performance of funerals, weddings, out-doorings and other public gatherings.

Dr. Ayuba Abdulai the Yendi Municipal Hospital Medical Superintendent said there was alarm on COVID 19 and people were scared and there was the need for people who were coughing or sneezing and vomiting to be quarantined for 14 days for the necessary medical test at Kumasi with the symbol.

He said very soon Tamale Teaching Hospital would also have the equipment for testing.

During the question and contributions, it was suggested that all the security Agencies and Health workers be giving protectors against COVID 19 to handle suspected cases and should be hand washing facilities at the entry points to Yendi township for passengers and those entering Yendi to wash their hands.

They also appealed to the government to supply gang thermometers to the Immigration officers and the Police at all entry points to Yendi as Yendi Municipal bordered Togo and Burkina Faso.
