Yilo Krobo NDC parliamentary candidate embarks on sanitation campaign to curb coronavirus

National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Yilo Krobo on Friday donated sanitary items including veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, liquid soap and tissue paper to the people of Klo Agogo as part of his efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus among his constituents.

Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, accompanied by constituency chairman, Narh Agbo, and the executive body of the party shared the items to patients at the Klo Agogo Health Centre, the Bethel Clinic, the Klo-Agogo Market Women Association, GPRTU executives and the various driver unions.

This comes on the back of the increasing number of cases of coronavirus in Ghana.

At the two health facilities, Mr. Nyarkotey visited all the wards, interacted with patients and shared the sanitizers to ensure that they safeguard themselves from the outbreak.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Nyakotey stated that he and his executives saw the need for the education and donation as he realised that the locals were not well informed on the safety measures needed to keep themselves from getting infected and even if they did, did not have sanitary items such as hand sanitizers which were in limited supply across the country.

He advised all to go to the clinic if they experience symptoms peculiar to those of Covid-19 and called on all to eliminate unnecessary travels and pay attention to government guidelines on the pandemic.

The parliamentary candidate added that his decision to target market women was largely due to the fact that the markets cannot be closed down since they supply foodstuffs to the populace.

The parliamentary candidate together with the Senior Midwife of the Klo Agogo Health Centre, Regina Kpodo demonstrated the right handwashing methods to the people.

Nyarkotey who called on all and sundry to deal with the outbreak said he will be undertaking similar exercises to various communities in the constituency in the coming days to ensure that as many people as possible receive the items and are adequately informed on the outbreak.

His actions, considered a timely intervention in the national fight against the spread of the pandemic, was highly appreciated by the Agogo Matse, Nene Odjeyem I who was presented with quantities of the sanitizers.

The chief welcomed the team who paid a courtesy call on him and expressed his joy at the benevolence and care shown by the parliamentary candidate towards the people of Klo-Agogo in the face of the covid-19 outbreak.

Nene Odjeyem I who said his people lacked enough education on the outbreak was grateful to Nyakotey for also educating the people and sharing of the sanitizers to them.

He advised his people to heed the call of the president against mass gatherings including funerals and church services and vowed to apprehend those who defy the directive and hand them over to the authorities.

He also called on authorities to intensify awareness and education on the virus to ensure that people were adequately informed on the disease.

The candidate, who has demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people of Yilo Krobo and has the development of the communities as his pre-occupation was in the company of Health Professionals on his visit to educate the indigenes on sanitary measures they have to employ to protect themselves from acquiring the virus.

Senior midwife at the Klo Agogo Health Centre, Regina Kpodo who took the market women and drivers through the proper handwashing procedure admonished them to apply what they learnt and also teach their relations how to wash their hands with soap under running water to help prevent them from contracting not just the covid-19, but also other diseases.

The market women, the members of the GPRTU, the nurses and health workers of the two health facilities in Agogo were full of praise for Nyakotey for his timely intervention during such a critical moment and prayed for more of such interventions to help curb the spread of covid-19.
