The Manya Krobo Senior High School in the Eastern Region has celebrated one of its illustrious alumni, on his appointment to the high office of a Justice of the High Court.

The colourful ceremony to honour His Lordship Gabriel Nene Kwao Mate-Teye held at the school’s assembly hall saw in attendance a host of old students of the school, continuing students, staff (teaching and non-teaching staff) and a cross section of well-wishers.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in December, 2019 appointed forty-five (45) Justices of the Superior Court of Judicature including His Lordship Gabriel Nene Kwao Mate-Teye.

His Lordship in an interview after the ceremony described the event as an honour on him as a person and his family in general.

“This is a great honour done to me and my family,” said Justice Mate-Teye. “This is historic, first time.”

The Judge who observed that the school has produced many men and women of substance over its years of existence said the honour bestowed on him was a hallmark and hoped that similar honours would be extended to other accomplished alumni of Makrosec.

His Lordship Gabriel Nene Kwao Mate-Teye who holds a Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, pursued Law at the Ghana school of law and was called to the bar in 2006.

He later did his Pupillage after Law school with Hesse and Hesse Law Chambers and thence to the Bench where he was appointed District Magistrate of the Tamale District Court from 2008 until 2012.

Between 2012 and 2015, he was subsequently appointed a Circuit Court Judge at Sogakope with Additional Responsibility as a Circuit Court Judge for Keta and also served as a Circuit Court Judge at the Ashaiman Circuit Court where he served until his appointment in 2019 as a High Court Judge stationed at the Sunyani High Court “2”

Justice Gabriel Nene Kwao Mate-Teye described as a mindset, the perception that law is a difficult area where most students shy away from.

He challenged aspiring law students to remain focused on their dream, do a lot of research and contribute meaningfully in class to make a breakthrough in the study of Law.

Above all however, he believes one needs to recognize their position as an orchestration of God.

“Whatever position you find yourself, recognize that it is God who has put you there,” he advised students.

Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo and himself an old student of Makrosec, Simon Kweku Tetteh congratulated the High Court Judge with the firm conviction that he is soon promoted to the Supreme Court.

His elevation, he told the students, should serve as motivation to them to attain the highest of heights.

With the Judge’s appointment and another old student of Makrosec in the person of Samuel Nuettey Ayertey serving as Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and current MP for the area, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi together with the MCE all being old students of the school, Mr. Tetteh was convinced Makrosec arguably stands out as the best school in the municipality.

He outlined a number of interventions being undertaken during his tenure to elevate the status of the school and appealed to the students to vote to retain President Akuffo Addo in the 2020 polls and the deputy eastern regional minister who is seeking to represent the constituency as a Member of Parliament.

His Lordship Gabriel Nene Kwao Mate-Teye was born in the 1960s to Mr. Emmanuel Matey Kwao.

In 2014, he was among some Judges that secured scholarship to study at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA in Master’s In Law, Labour and Employment and returned to Ghana in May, 2015 after his graduation.
