CSOs petitioned government to invest in health sector

The Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights together with other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) began a Universal Access to Healthcare Campaign to advocate for better healthcare services in the country.

As part of the campaign, the CSOs presented a communique to the government through the Northern Regional Minister Honourable Salifu Sa-eed demanding the government to invest in health service delivery in the country.

Among other demands by the 36 CSOs who adopted the campaign, they emphasized on the need for government to established one hospital in each district across the country with at least one doctor for each hospital.

This, they said will ensure universal access to healthcare which is in line with the sustainable development goals.

According to the Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights Programs Officer, Rhema Andah, healthcare financing trends since 2016 shows a considerable proportion of health budget being spent on compensations whiles expenditure on goods and services and health capital expenditures receive inadequate financial support.

She therefore lamented on the urgent need for government to invest in the health sector to ensure the country achieve universal health service by 2030.

The Northern Regional Deputy Director of Administration of the Ghana Health Service, Jeremiah M. Tiimob said the Ghana Health Service will study the content of the message on the petition and work towards addressing their demands.

He added that, two days from now the health service will be accessing their contribution towards health delivery in the country, thus will incorporate their demands into consideration.

He assured them of the health service readiness to partner with CSOs to provide Ghanaians better healthcare services.

The Deputy Director of The Northern Regional Coordinating Council, Mohammed S. Musah received the petition on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister and assured them of presenting it to the minister for further scrutiny.

He assured that the regional coordinating council will collaborate with them to ensure their better health service in the region.
