Churches in Winneba organized peace forum

Winneba, April 24, GNA - Capt Steve Kwamena Armah, the District Chief Awutu-Effutu-Senya, on Sunday appealed to the people of Winneba to celebrate this year's annual Aboakyer festival peacefully. He said no country or town could develop without peace and urged the people of Winneba to ensure that peace prevailed during and after the festival.

The Aboakyer festival (Dear hunting festival) starts from April 30 and ends on May 8. The Aboakyer day, where the two Asafo Companies would go to the bush to capture a live Dear, would be on May 7. The DCE made the appeal when addressing a forum on "National Peace" at the Anglican Church, organized by the Local Council of Churches in Winneba.

Speaking on the topic, "Peace for the Nation", Capt Armah urged the churches to continue to pray for peace in country and commended the Local Council of Churches for their positive involvement on the District HIV/AIDS response initiative programme.

The DCE said the district assembly is sponsoring many teacher trainees to teach in the district after graduation as part of efforts to solve teacher problem facing the district.

Capt Armah urged the people in the district to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme.
