Takoradi Polytechnic celebrates golden jubilee

Takoradi, April 15, GNA - Takoradi Polytechnic has announced a series of activities commemorating the one-year-long golden jubilee anniversary of the school.

The actual launch of the anniversary is slated for May 28 this year, which among others would enable the public to appreciate the need to support the polytechnic, which is one of the oldest educational institutions in the Western Region in its struggle to become a centre of excellence.

Dr Samuel Obeng Apori, Principal said at a press conference in Takoradi that the occasion would be used to form a formidable alumni to boost the development efforts of the school and outdoor an endowment fund.

He said inauguration of new projects; the organisation of a fifth congregation and anniversary durbar in February 2006, would climax the celebrations.

Other activities would include a float by staff and students, symposiums, sports competitions, cleanup and eye screening exercises, Polytechnic open day and candlelight procession.

Takoradi Polytechnic, which began in February 1955 as a technical institute now runs a wide range of Higher National Diploma programmes. Dr Apori said there were plans for the institute to launch Bachelor of Technology programmes in the very near future.

Reverend Daniel A. Nyarko, Vice Principal said the Fashion and Design and the Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management Departments were being resourced with modern tools and equipment. The Computer Science Unit is also being transformed with modern ICT equipment while the School of Business Studies is being relocated at a new campus to enhance academic work.
