Paul Ansah’s ‘Prospectus Awards Scheme' gifts GHC10,000 to brilliant students in Asuogyaman

Five pupils who completed various Junior High Schools in the Asuogyaman District have a lot to smile about heading to the Senior High School aside government’s free Senior High School education.

The five at a colourful ceremony during the commissioning of a three-unit classroom block for the ‘B’ Akoto Basic School by the Fairtrade Premium Management Committee at Senchi in the Eastern region, received financial rewards from Mr. Paul Ansah to further ease financial constraints on their parents as they picked up envelopes containing two thousand cedis each having obtained between aggregate six and ten in the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination.

Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Transport, Mr Paul Ansah on Tuesday presented the amounts to Stephen Onadambo Doku who completed Akosombo VRA JHS NO. 1, for obtaining aggregate 9, Ernest Amponsah Amaka who completed Akwamu Abuakwa Presby JHS for obtaining aggregate 10 and Bismark Ackah who completed Akosombo VRA JHS NO. 2 and secured aggregate 10.

Two others are yet to present their particulars to pick up their rewards.

Presenting the amounts to the students and their parents, Mr Ansah said the gesture will motivate BECE candidates to give out their best during the exams.

The amount, according to the New Patriotic Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 parliamentary elections, is expected to support the students in purchasing all the requirements on their prospectus to the Senior High Schools.

The awards presented under Mr Ansah's ‘Prospectus Awards Scheme' forms part of the various interventions he has introduced to enhance the teaching and learning in the Asuogyaman District.

"I introduced this scheme so that those who'll get between aggregate 6 to 10 in the BECE in addition to the free SHS provided by the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo will also provide free prospectus items, that is every single item on the prospectus to be purchased by parents for their wards, are provided for them free of charge, " he said.

The five recipients on Tuesday brings the number of winners so far under the scheme introduced in 2018, to 18 and has the potential to support more students in the future.

The former Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority who funds the scheme with the support of friends and well-wishers is hopeful of widening the net to embrace more students.

"When I have access to extra funds, I'll extend the aggregate to a little bit lower so that more students can benefit from this," Mr Ansah assured adding that the gesture will inspire the pupils to learn harder.

The elated parents and students extended profound gratitude to the aspiring Member of Parliament for the support towards Senior High School education.

“I’ll say a big thank you to Mr. Paul Ansah and God richly bless him,” said 14-year-old Stephen Onadambo Doku who has gained admission to the Mfantsipim Senior High School in the central region to study science.

He attributed his success to taking his studies seriously.

He was grateful that the amount will go a long way in relieving his parents off some financial burden and called on his juniors in the Junior High Schools to study hard to benefit from the scheme.

A parent and father to Ernest Amponsah Amaka who has equally gained admission to the St Peter’s Senior High School in the Eastern Region also remarked: “The amount is okay for me and I’m grateful to Mr. Paul Ansah for the support.”

He also called on other pupils to emulate the success of his son, adding that the amount will relieve him of some financial burden.

Mr. Ansah has already undertaken some interventions to support education in the Asuogyaman District including organizing extra classes for pupils, donation of mathematical sets, giving of transportation money to pupils, organizing spelling competitions, SHS quiz competition and other interventions which cumulatively could help raise the standard of education in the district.
