The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has organised a massive clean-up exercise dubbed 'Operation Flood Alert' to clean the Municipality the Eastern Regional capital of filth.

The programme which coincided with the International Disaster Management Day brought together the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric KWAKYE Darfour., the Regional NADMO coordinator Kwame Kodua, MCE Isaac Appaw -Gyasi, the Eastern Regional Chief Imam Alhaji Yussif Amdaani, party faithfuls, the security agencies, market women, kayayas among others.

Addressing the participants, the Regional Minister, acknowledged the effort of all stakeholders who supported the programmes in diverse ways to make the exercise successful.

He indicated that all MMDAs for that matter Ghana loses huge money every quarter on sanitation alone which to him is a worrisome situation and needs all hands on deck to fight the canker.

He said no Assembly can develop with a lot of sanitation issues, that is why the president is committed to fight and make Accra the cleanest city in African.

It is as a result of this, the Assembly through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has approved her bye-law to ensure that each and every citizen adhere to the bye-laws.

The Regional Minister emphasized, in implementing the bye-laws, the Assembly must ensure to provides alternative dust bins at all vantage points so that people will not litre the environment indiscriminately.

He further suggested to the Assembly to provide lockable waste bins since the Assembly is about to implement her approved bye-laws on sanitation.

According to him, cleanliness is next to Godliness, and it is expected of all citizens of the country to have a change of attitude towards the environment in order to prevent them from illness.

In order to avoid open dedication, the Minster caution the Assembly to ensure that all buildings and yet to be approved building withing the Municipality have public toilet.

He added that the Municipal environmental health officers within the region should embark on routine monitoring to every house and summon those landlords and lady's who do not have toilet facility in their houses.

For his part, the Municipal Chief Executive, for New Juaben South commended the co-partners of the exercise, saying the participation is awesome and asked all and Sunday to help protect our environment from filth.

He said we all need to open our eyes wide and report all sanitation miscreants to the appropriate authorities to ensure that our environment is cleaned.

According to him, the Assembly is about to crack the whip on anybody who disposes refuse indiscriminately. He said those people if found will be punish by sweeping the entire Municipality for a whole two months.

Mr. Appaw-Gyasi emphasised that this is contained in the bye-laws of the Assembly which was approved at the just ended Assembly meeting and the Assembly will not condone with anybody who would intend pardon for somebody.

The Eastern Regional NADMO coordinator, Kwaku Kodua admonished the public to rally behind the government to achieve all policies implemented.

The President Akufo-Addo's government will continue to draw a proper road-map that will see for development of the country and the future generations at large.
