Four Die in Accident

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Jan. 27, GNA - Two persons died on the spot and two others later at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dormaa-Ahenkro when two vehicles they were travelling on collided near Wamanafo on the Dormaa-Berekum trunk road.

Police at Dormaa-Ahenkro said a Man Diesel tipper truck with registration number NR 323 S belonging to Mawus Construction Company was conveying 16 workers from Dormaa-Akwamu to Dormaa-Ahenkro while the other, a KIA pride taxi-cab with registration number GT 3043 F was bound for Wamfie.

The deceased have been identified as Stephen Baffour Anhwere, headteacher of Wamanafo Seventh-Day Adventist Basic School, Bismarck Abrefa, a student of Mansen Secondary School in Wamfie, Kwabena Bio, a carpenter and a man identified only as Taller.

The police quoted survivors as attributing the accident to carelessness on the part of the driver of the tipper truck, in his attempt to over-take another vehicle at a dangerous portion of the road. Investigations at the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital revealed that only one of the injured had been discharged.

Bodies of the dead have been deposited at the Catholic Hospital pending autopsy while the police are searching for the tipper truck driver who bolted after the accident.
