Apam (C/R), Dec 31, GNA - Mr Thomas Arthur, the Gomoa District Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has appealed to chiefs and community leaders to make youth groups partners in development and to involve them in decision-making, planning and execution of projects.
Mr Arthur said since the youth are the future leaders their demand to know what is going on around them should not be regarded as inquisitiveness but be assisted to get information they need to deepen their knowledge.
He gave the advice at a symposium organised by De-Youngsters Club, a youth club at Apam.
''The youth become rebellious when they are denied the information they need.''
Mr Arthur urged the youth to learn to respect and obey simple rules and regulations in the home and school and to be occupied with their studies to avoid the temptation of falling prey to bad companies. Mr Arthur advised parents and guardians to let their children see them, as role parents and they should do away with "do what I say and not what I do" syndrome.
Mr Steve Bruce, an official of Gomoa District Directorate of Ghana Education Service, called on district assemblies to provide recreational centres for the youth in the communities.
Rev. Peter Brown, a pastor of the Apam Apostolic Church who spoke on "good relationship among youth towards marriage - the role of the society", told the youth to let their parents know and approve the relationship between them and their future partners before they contract marriage.
Mr Richard Ebo Afful is the president of De-Youngster Club formed two years ago to educate the youth on teenage and adolescent issues.
