Nzema East MCE supplies over 800 footwear to deprived school children

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region, Hon. Frank Okpenyen popularly known as Franko has supplied 820 footwear to deprived school children in the area to encourage them to attend school regularly.

The donation forms part of his commitment to supporting and improving effective teaching and learning in the schools within his municipality.

The beneficiary schools were; Kukuavile Methodist Nursery and Primary School, Adukrom Nursery and M/A Primary School and Apatim Methodist Primary and JHS School.

The donation brings the total number of footwear presented by the MCE to 1,200.

In addition to the school footwear, he donated 38 buckets of paint to Kukuavile Methodist Primary School to renovate the school.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held over the weekend at the premises, the MCE said he observed during his visit to Kakusuazo M/A Basic School where he donated desks to the school, that some of the school children barefooted to school and that motivated him to provide them with the footwear.

He reiterated government's commitment to ensuring quality education for all children of school going age and tasked the children to make good use of the items to achieve its intended purposes.

He, therefore, advised the pupils to take their studies seriously since they are the future leaders of the country.

He also advised them to refrain from deviant behaviours that will affect their future and respect their parents and also be God-fearing.

He pledged the Apatim Methodist Basic School of providing them with furniture next year.

He used the occasion to encourage the teaching staff to work hard and urged them to work hard with patience, humility and selfless in other to upbringing the children to become good future leaders.

He pledged the Assembly's readiness to commit more resources in providing facilities to ensure quality education for the nation's development.

He promised to donate some items to other school children and disclosed that the gesture is not going to be a nine-day wonder but would be done every term.

He also used the opportunity and promised to liaise with the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Catherine Afeku to improve educational performance in the area.

He thanked the MP for the immense support given to the Assembly to improve educational performance in the area.

On his part, the Headteacher of Kukuavile Methodist Basic School, Mr. Mark Tetteh, expressed his profound gratitude to the MCE for the kind gesture and appealed to the Assembly to complete the teachers' bungalow which was started by this current government.

He further praised the MCE and MP for their numerous contributions towards the welfare and development of the schools in the municipality which include the construction of teachers' bungalow for his school.

The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman for the school, Mr. Justice Asmah thanked the MCE for the gesture and added that the refurbishment of the school building will give a facelift to the school and the community.

He pleaded with the Assembly to renovate and complete the nursery school of the area which started by the community and serves as a death trap for the kids.

He reaffirmed the Headteacher appeal for the completion of the teachers' bungalow to ease the burdens of renting accommodation for teachers.

"The NPP government is doing well but our teachers' bungalow is so dearest to us because we don't have some when teachers are being posted to the school they don't stay, I'm appealing to government to complete it", he bemoaned.

He advised parents of these communities to invest all their resources in their children's education

Moreover, some of the pupils also expressed their appreciation towards the MCE and promised him to learn hard in order to become future leaders of this country and also prayed hard for the MCE to live long.
