Kampakuya Na Andani Yakubu Abdulai, Regent of Dagbon has called on the chiefs of Gbungbaliga, Nakpachie to play their roles responsibly to restore everlasting peace in the area.

He urged them to channel all their energies towards fighting, poverty, disease and hunger to gain the needed peace for development and refrain from needless clashes. “The money government is spending on peacekeeping could be used in executing development projects in your communities and that is why, you have to peacefully co-exist by ensuring that you do not infringe upon the liberties of each other.”

Regent of Dagbon made this call when he invited the Dagbomba and Konkomba chiefs from the Nakpachei and Gbungbaliga to his palace following the clash between the two groups.

The chiefs included; Gbungbaliga Na. Alhassan Bukari Habib, EX-Warrant Officer One, Nakpachie Na. Mahamadu Mahama Maligu Na. Konja Babayi and their elders. The Regent also urged them to smoke out all war mongers amongst them to create a congenial atmosphere for the co-existence of the two ethnic groups and called on the people of Poliya, Pingaya, Kpabuya, Jinjinabani and all the other communities in the area to exercise maximum restraint to avert the recurrence of community clashes in succeeding years.

He warned against the alleged destruction of some farm produce of some community members as that could further impoverish them.

MrTimothy Babayi Buedi, the Assemblyman for Nakpachei electoral area has called on the Dagbonbas who have fled from Nakpachei to Yendi and other parts of the areas to return as the place was peaceful. Last week there was a reported clash between two farmers in Nakpachie near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The clash, they said happened, when a farmer’s maize farm was destroyed by another farmer’s pigs based on which, the maize farmer allegedly shot and killed one of the pigs, which resulted into reprisal attacks.

It was in the bid to amicably settle the issue that compelled the Dagbon Regent to invite the two groups to his Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
