Yendi Municipal Assembly holds 2018 Townhall meeting

As an interim measure to stem the perennial acute water shortage in Yendi and its environs, the Assembly has appealed to government to construct and mechanise boreholes in all the 14 electoral areas.

They have also appealed to government to expedite action on the proposed construction of a water treatment plant at Sabare at the Oti river.

This came to light during the Assembly’s 2018 Townhall meeting in Yendi.
Town Hall Meetings are a means for people in authority at the local and national levels to interact with the citizenry, while duty bearers use the platform to inform their constituents about programmes and projects that were executed to improve their living conditions.

In his presentation on projects and programmes, Alhaji Hammed Abubakari Yussuf, the Municipal Chief Executive said it was the second Town Meeting organised in the municipality to outline the performance of government and aspirations of the people.

He said work on the Youth Resources Centre at zang was in progress and would be completed soon, while the construction of four mechanised boreholes in kulkpenduli, Chopondo, Bailey and Adibo and four 10-seater toilet facilities with mechanised boreholes at Yendi Senior High School, Dagbong State Senior High Technical School Yendi Municipal Hospital and Sunsong were underway.

He said the assembly in partnership with Ghana First, a Private Company were in the process of constructing seven 16-seater and one 20-seater toilet facilities at different locations in the Municipality.

He announced that 844 households received a total amount of GHC 272,104.00 in 50 operating communities under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme and indicated that under one village one dam, construction had stated at Adibo, Zang and kpalgabini out of the ten awarded.

Mr Gaspard Dery, the Yendi Municipal Coordinating Director in his welcome address said the Town Hall Meetings had elements of good governance with transparency, accountability, participation and involvement in decision-making.

Mr Amadu Mustapha Zakaria, the Sevelugu Municipal Information Officer who did a presentation on behalf of the Regional Information Officer Mr Ahmed Husein hammered on education, agriculture and health.

He welcomed the NPP administration’s focus on Free Senior High School Education, Planting for Food and Jobs, one village one dam and said with the Free SHS Programme 180,000 children were admitted.
