Twifo Traditional Council to sanction absentee chiefs

Twifo Mampong (C/R) Oct. 27, GNA - The Twifo Traditional Council is to sanction members who absent themselves from meetings for three consecutive times.

The decision was taken by members at a traditional council meeting presided over by Okoanyinam Appiah Nuamah Obrempong II, Twifo Mampong Omanhene and President of the Council at a meeting held at Mampong on Tuesday.

According to members of the House since Nana Nuamah Obrempong was installed Omanhene 4 years ago, some members had refused to attend meetings held by the Council.

Nana Obrempong said the chieftaincy act 370 stipulated that if a chief absented himself from traditional council meeting for three times the president had the mandate to sanction or destool him. He said since he was installed Omanhene he had held four meetings and some chiefs had deliberately refused to attend.

Nana Obrempong appealed to Queen mothers and heads of families to advise their chiefs against such negative practices since the area needed peace to progress.

Earlier, Nana Kwame Baduo II Kyidomhene and Nana Boa Kyere II Benkumhene of the Twifo Traditional Area had walked out of the meeting on grounds that members at the meeting did not form a quorum. Later, in an interview with the acting Registrar of the Council Mr John Danyame, he said 19 out of 32 chiefs attended the meeting and that there was no justification in the allegation.
