Communities advised to plan own projects

Tarkwa (W/R), Oct. 25, GNA - Mr Nicholas Mutty, Chairman of the Brenuakyim Unit Committee at Tarkwa has called on the people to plan and execute needed development projects without always looking up to the Government for such needs.

He said religious organisations and other institutions could offer assistance by providing working tools such as shovels, wheelbarrows, pick-axes, cutlasses and technical advice to the people.

Mr Mutty was addressing a forum organised by the Brenuakyim community to plan new projects to enhance their lots. He advised individuals to adopt laid down regulations in the building of houses and also avoid building in waterways to check disasters in the future.

Nana Kofi Ahima III, Odikro of Brenuakyim said elders of the community were prepared to offer land to individuals and institutions for development purposes.

He appealed to the people to keep their environments clean to avoid contracting diseases.

Nana Ahima praised Mr Alex Quarm, Assembly Member for the area for his dynamism and exemplary leadership qualities.

In a related development, Mr Michael Blay, Unit Committee Chairman for Ekutuasi in the Wassa West District has urged the people to do something about the poor sanitation in the areas to avoid the imminent outbreak of epidemic

He told the Ghana news Agency after visiting the area at the weekend that, communities in the area lack toilets, potable water and refuse disposal sites and said this posed health hazards to the people. Mr Blay appealed to the Wassa West District Assembly to go to the aid of the people.
