Sunyani Municipal Assembly improves on revenue mobilisation

The Sunyani Municipal Assembly raked in GHC1, 811,376.30 Internally Generated Funds in 2017, Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, the Municipal Chief Executive has disclosed.

The amount represented 80.36 percent of the Assembly’s projected revenue of GHC2, 254,205.46 within the period.

Addressing the first ordinary meeting of the third session of the sixth Assembly in Sunyani, Mrs Kumi-Richardson said with the establishment of a revenue taskforce, the Assembly would be able to increase its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and perform better.

For 2018, She said the Assembly had collected GHC373, 387.09 in the first quarter, representing 15.82 percent of the annual projected amount of GHC2, 360,913.87, indicating that the figure was far below the expected average revenue of 25 percent.

She directed the taskforce and the revenue collectors of the Assembly to intensify the revenue mobilisation drive to enable the assembly to achieve the set target for development to thrive.

Mrs Kumi-Richardson said the Assembly had received its first quarter of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), of GHC223,734.09, MPs Common Fund-GHC84,660.42 and Disability Fund-GHC139,068.09, which she added had been disbursed accordingly.

She said her outfit had taken inventory of all the projects initiated by her predecessor, assuring that the Assembly would continue and complete those projects for the benefit of the constituents.

Mr Kokro Amankwaa, the General Secretary of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) announced plans were far advanced to supply assembly members with motorbikes to enhance their work.

He said capacity training workshops would also be organised to get them abreast with the local government concept, Act 936 and the procurement law to enable them work effectively.

Mr Ansu Kumi, the Presiding Member of the Assembly commended the Assembly members for their spirit of unity which was facilitating rapid development in the municipalities.

He, however, advised some of them to bury their political differences and cooperate with the city authorities in planning and executing physical infrastructure for the benefit of the people.
