The Chiefs and people of Weija in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region are battling the Ga South Municipal Assembly and the Local Government Ministry over boundary demarcation and tax revenues.

According to the Chiefs and residents, communities like Mile 11, Zunkonaa, GBC and Akwasa electoral areas which fall under the Ga South Municipality have illegally been ceded to the newly created Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, which was carved out of Ga South Municipal Assembly.

They believe that if the matter is not addressed the areas in question would be paying levies to the new assembly.

It would be recalled that Parliament passed a bill for the creation of the new municipalities and districts which also involved the elevation and realignment of some municipalities and districts.

The Chiefs and People of Weija are, therefore, calling on the Chief Justice, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, the Ministry of local Government and Rural Development, and the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, to ensure that the illegality is corrected. According to them the anomaly would have far reaching consequences if not rectified.

They contended that the lack of clear demarcation of boundaries would lead to a contentious issue between the Allodial owners and the MMDAs.

They are therefore drawing the attention of the relevant bodies including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed forces, the Ga South Municipal Assembly at Weija, and the ministry to address the issue.

They further called on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) to resolve boundary disputes among the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to avert the confusion that will arise the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly and the Ga South Municipality with respect to the collection of levies.
