Independence Day celebrations marked at Nkroful

A Contingent of 940 Basic and Second Cycle Schools in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region went on a March past to mark the 61st Independence Anniversary Day celebrations at Nkroful, the birth and burial place of first President of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Kwasi Bonzo flanked by the District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police (SOP) Thomas Bayor and the Director of Education took the salute from the parade commander, Master Anthony Kwame and reviewed a colourful parade of the cadet corps of the various schools.

The Teleku-Bokazo District Assembly primary emerged first in the parade with the Junior High School of the same town, scooping the first position in the JHS category with the Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTECH) also emerging first in the second cycle category.

All the participatory schools received awards in the forms of exercise books, pens and certificates.

Four students who obtained between aggregates six and seven in the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) received cash prizes of between GHc500 and GHc200.

The Nkroful Agricultural Secondary School (NASS) also received a cash prize award of GHc200 for being the best debating school in the District.

Addressing the parade the DCE Mr. Bonzo who read the President's speech, on the theme," Ghana Beyond Aid", said Ghana must take its destiny into her own hands towards economic emancipation.

He called for transparency to harness the country's natural mineral resources to better the living conditions of Ghanaians.

President Akufo Addo intimated that the Right to Information Bill would be passed by Parliament to lend much credence to the office of the Special Prosecutor to fight corruption.
