NDC demands execution of government flagship programs in Upper West Region

The Upper West Regional Communications Directorate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling on the government to as a matter of agency start the implementation of its flagship programs in the region for the benefit of the citizens.

The Regional Communications Director of the party Issah Kantagyeri in a press briefing said it is barely one month away from the rainy season and they are still waiting anxiously for their share of the one-Village One-Dam project promised by the government.

Raising concerns about government's programs some of which are yet to kick start in the Upper West Region, the communications team of the NDC demands commencement of the projects to ensure an early completion to the benefit of the people.

Cataloguing a number of programs which were promised by the New Patriotic Party during the election nearing campaigns including One-Village, One-Dam, One District, One-factory, one million dollars per constituency the team demands a share of the projects.

They also called on the government to kick start the operation of the new upper West Regional Hospital and commercial flights of the Wa Airport which were built and upgraded under former President John Dramani Mahama's administration and were scheduled to be operational by the first quarter of 2017.

The group again demanded that all Senior High School students be vaccinated against diseases especially at a time they schools are congested as a result of the free Senior high school program.

About the suspension of the Upper West Regional Minister Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan, the group claimed the minister has been sacrificed on the altar as a scapegoat for the incessant attacks of NPP party vigilante groups on their own party people.

"We in the NDC have often called on the president as the Commander- In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies to deal decisively with these NPP hoodlums without fear or favour".

"It is sad to not that the security agencies and the president appeared helpless in protecting innocent, vulnerable and law abiding Ghanaians against the activities of these vigilante groups".

The group also touched on the illegal harvesting of rosewood across the region.

They claimed that the government of Nana Akufo-Addo has granted permit to people to salvage fell woods which were cut during the planting for food and jobs last year.

"The New Patriotic Party clandestinely granted permits for salvaging of rosewood allegedly felled during the implementation of the "planting for food and jobs" program that was yet to take off as of the time of granting the permits to rosewood contractors in 2017".
