Some commercial drivers in the Ashanti Regional mining town of Obuasi have accused the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Hon Elisha Adansi Bonah, and some Assembly members for extortion.

According to 2016 Progress People’s Party (PPP) parliamentary candidate for the area, Frank Aboagye Danyansah the drivers are compelled to pay between two and three hundred Ghana Cedis for traffic offences.

“Drivers operating from Amangose paying for such amount without official receipts”, he alleged claiming there is enough evidence to back these allegations.

“I have spoken to the leadership of commercial drivers at Amangose and they told me the MCE is behind some city guards extorting monies from the drivers”, he stated.

According to him, the leadership of the various driver unions in the municipality are worried and they will soon hit the streets to protest for the removal of the Hon. Elisha Adansi Bonah.

” A massive demonstration is underway for his removal and some civil servants working for the Assembly”, the outspoken PPP Communicator hinted.

The MCE Elisha Adansi Jonah in defence has denied knowledge of extortion stating however, some city guards have been dispatched to ease congestion in the municipality indicating that they could be doing so at the blind side of authorities.
