Head of Kwabre East District Security Council, Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu has ruled out closure of the Gyaama Pensan Senior High Technical School following a riot by students.

He described the protest as worrying after students from two other senior high schools within the same District embarked on similar protest that led to the destruction of school properties.

Students of Gyaama Pensan Senior High Technical School embarked on a protest against school authorities, Sunday evening, TV3’s Ibrahim Abubakar reports.

The students were calling for the immediate removal of their headmaster after claiming that he used his discretion to ban the school from engaging in entertainment activities.

The protest led to the destruction of school properties including a newly installed computer server, the headmaster’s official bungalow and vehicle.

They also broke several louvre blades in their dormitories and that of the senior house master’s bungalow.

A number of parents stormed the school premises Monday morning to demand the immediate release of their wards.

They claimed the safety of their children cannot be guaranteed whilst in the school.

But after an emergency meeting with school authorities, the regional education directorate and the district security council, it has been resolved that the school would not be closed down.

Head of Kwabre East District Security Council, Nana Osei Assibey Bonsu says a committee has been set up to investigate the incident and submit its report by Friday.

He cautioned students to refrain from violent protest anytime there is a misunderstanding between them and school authorities.

Academic activities were halted on Monday but school authorities are expecting to resume academic works tomorrow.
