Two police officers have been shot and killed by unidentified armed men at Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti Region.

The three police officers Constable Enoch Okyere, Prosper Ashinyo and Inspector Adolph Mutse in a car with registration number GP 2346 while returning from their night duty at Drobonso around 4:30am on Thursday, January 11 were shot by armed men numbering about eight who had barricaded the Kumawu-Drobonso main motor road on the Onwan Mountains.

Inspector Adolph Mutse and Constable Prosper Ashinyo died on the spot while Constable Enoch Okyere sustained injuries.

It is unclear what might have triggered the attack but the District Chief Executive of Sekyere Afram Plains, Joseph Owusu Odenkyem believes the officers were ambushed by the gunmen.

The bodies have since been deposited at the morgue and the injured is currently at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.
